I Know Your Name 我知道你的名字

Long time no post!

I'm delighted to announce that a song I wrote with the inimitable Galen Crew (Instagram | Weibo) came out yesterday! What an epic decision Galen made to sing an entire, original song in Mandarin!

It was so fun to write Chinese lyrics based on his vision for the song. Despite the ease of rhyming in Mandarin (which I discuss here), it was still quite a challenge to do a collaborative co-write from across the ocean and try to make it sound good to the native-speaking Chinese audience. I have to say I was a bit nervous about how it would go over, but a skimming of the 1000+ comments the song got in the first 24 hours of its release helped set my mind at ease [sigh-of-relief-emoji].

I have to take this opportunity to congratulate Galen on his very, VERY good Chinese pronunciation (more on this in a future post)!

I must also give a huge special thanks to my dear wife, Eva, for all the editorial suggestions and for being the first focus group (of one) to hear the song with Chinese ears. Galen and I couldn't have pulled this off without you! [sappy-heart-emoji]

Listen to 《我知道你的名字》wǒ zhīdao nǐ de míngzi "I Know Your Name" for free on NetEase (if you're in China) or Spotify (if you're NOT in China).
